As StrategyStory enters its next chapter, we’re growing carefully and with purpose. We’re currently looking for a Story Assistant to join us, but this role is about more than content creation. It’s about people, ambition and the power of storytelling to move organisations forward.
So what sits behind the work? And why does it matter so much? We sat down with founder Kate Hooper to find out a little more.
OK, let’s start with a big question, w
hat drives you?
I’ve always been obsessed with storytelling. I blame my Hebridean heritage and the oral traditions of the Highlands and Islands! I’ve spent 25 years working in the media, strategy and innovation while researching and studying how stories affect us as human beings: how they create change, build community and unlock potential.
I’m in my happy place helping people and organisations realise their ambitions, particularly those working in complex environments and innovation. That’s what drives me…
..and my mantra is simple: stories drive action. When a story is clear and human, people move. At StrategyStory, we’ve developed award-winning approaches with storytelling at the heart. It’s all about helping people move forward in a way that feels good and actually works. We’ve taken that message to clients all over the globe, from Australia to the USA.
What makes StrategyStory so great to be a part of?
We’re small, collaborative and ambitious, but in a thoughtful way.
We’re real and human. The work we do is important, but how we do it matters just as much. It has to feel good. It has to be enjoyable. We spend a huge amount of our lives at work, so relationships and energy really count.
There’s no ego and no corporate layers. If you’re part of StrategyStory, you’re in the room contributing, shaping ideas and having a voice.
You’ll also be part of the wider StrategyStory Collective: a brilliant network of experienced producers, filmmakers, designers and facilitators.
What makes the work interesting?
Our work sits right at the heart of organisations. We have three core offerings: Leadership communications, strategic engagement programmes, and creative storytelling for marketing and communications.
I’m incredibly proud of the content we create. It’s innovative, creative and designed to make a real impact but that’s not all we do. We’re helping leaders clarify direction, and teams deliver change in a way that people genuinely understand and believe in. That might mean shaping a strategy narrative together, helping a board articulate ambition that their people are at the heart of, or supporting a team through innovation or growth.
Storytelling isn’t an add-on for us; it’s the mechanism that makes strategy work. When people understand where they’re going and why it matters, they move together, and that’s when real progress happens.
Why is it an exciting time to join StrategyStory?
We’re growing carefully and intentionally. We celebrate our ninth birthday this year, and we’re not about growth for growth’s sake, but growth with purpose.
There’s real energy around what we’re building: brilliant clients who share our values, high-profile work, exciting conversations and new partnerships.
Our foundations are strong, and the next chapter is being shaped right now. Anyone joining us will help shape what comes next. There’s real opportunity here to influence the direction and evolve the role for the future.

What makes this a great/unique role to apply for?
This is not a big corporate marketing job where you’re a small cog in a big machine. You’ll be working with me directly. t’s a hands-on, creative role in a small, ambitious business that punches above its weight. Your work will be visible and valued.
There’s space to learn, to contribute ideas, and to shape how the role evolves as we grow.
And if our values of Ambition. Purpose. Focus. Action. Belonging. light something up in you – then this is the role for you.
And if that light has just switched on – I cannot wait to meet you!
